Jasper Conran’s show was one of my favourite ones this season, and I was completely seduced by the uncluttered silhouettes and the incredible palette of blacks and browns. As far as I am concerned, I have never been a big fan of brown, but there is so much more here than a dull colour. We are talking voluptuous and creamy chocolates, shimmery coppers and other delights.
There was also an appealing Sixties feel about this collection, through the jumpsuits and hot pants with low belts, teamed with suede thigh boots, so Emma Peel. Another inspiration seems to have been Eastern Europe with the long pale silhouettes wearing oversized black tuniques, accessorised with black scarves around the head, covering completely the models’ hair.
But more than that, what was really striking about this collection was the perfect simplicity, or the simple perfection, of the cut. Long black dresses hugging the body, but not too much, only embellished with a row of black feathers, lightness and fluidity of the short dresses, Jasper Conran’s collection for Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 exudes a timeless elegance and a certain idea of perfection.
