The Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2013 collection will be remembered for the stunning rainbow of metallic trench coats that closed the show. A wonderful camaieu of futuristic tones applied to the brand’s trademark garment, with an outer space twist.
Christopher Bailey told The Telegraph that the collection this season was « a little bit sassier, a little bit sexier, and a little bit more joyful » and this is exactly what we got – futuristic fabrics, including transparent rigid vinyl for cropped capes and handbags, colour clashing mixing bold hues of deep purples, bright reds, lime and emerald greens, turquoise blues, not to mention the statement pointed wedge shoes that completed each outfit in the most alluring manner. There were new shapes as well, like the utterly sexy satin basques or the capsule-like oversized capes in ecru or navy blue. However, knee-length pencil skirts and peplum bustiers, as well as trench and cropped jackets, dominated the show. The Burberry woman knows how to have fun and give a modern twist to her silhouette but she remains above all extremely elegant in garments with clean, neat cuts.
The show took place in Hyde Park and was also streamed live – as it has been the case for a few seasons now – including at the new flagship store in Regent Street, where a champagne reception was held. Customers also had the ability to buy their favourite items straight from the catwalk online until 23th September.
