It’s All Style To Me gave you an exclusive preview of Gianni Falcone and Mike Derderian’ PAVONI Fall/Winter 2012 Collection a week before World MasterCard Fashion Week kicked off. This Canadian design duo is headquartered in Montréal, but moved to Los Angeles between January and August of 2011 to aggressively market the brand. Seems as though it paid off. They’ve dressed some of the biggest celebrities such as Fergie, Shakira, Miss Russia Natalia Gantimurova, Miranda Lambert, Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, and Lindsay Lohan. And that was just last year. Naturally, one has to ask, is this a strategy that more Canadian designers should be using? It seems as though success abroad leads to success at home with it being infinitely harder the other way around.

The PAVONI Fall/Winter 2012 collection takes red carpet dressing to the extreme, and expresses the picturesque and artistic beauty of the Crusade movement during the 11th to the 13th century period. Christian Lacroix, Gareth Pugh and Versace have also played on Christian themes for their FW12 collections. The use of strong details along more delicate floral motifs used with intricate, yet elaborate fabrics like chiffon silks, delicate lace or even through dramatic necklace inspired beading on dresses scream of red carpet ready looks for FW12.

« It is through the novel arrangement of hand-made drapes and cascading fabric, all the way through the uncontested virtuoso of the ball gowns where the collection is sure to create effects of dazzling freshness, » explained Derdarian in an interview with It’s All Style To Me.  Canada has found its couturiers and the media onslaught that followed their Day 1 closing show proves just how awestruck we all are. Where have you guys been hiding?

Rumour has it Holt’s is trying to snap up the boys, who have no Canadian distribution, for next fall/winter.
