GAUCHERE’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection features 38 looks highlighting the wearer and their real-life existence. For the second time in a row, Marie-Christine Statz has chosen the atmosphere of the Passage des Jacobins as the ideal place to reflect the mood of the collection.

The color palette is mainly composed of different shades of gray, light brown, cream, white and lots of black. The mostly monochromatic looks are accented with a bright green print. Marie-Christine Statz has extracted the motif from an untitled work that Camille Henrot painted in 2022. It has been transformed on a sand-colored viscose resembling a canvas. The oversized shirt, mid-length skirt and sleeveless top are constructed with placed slits that form their individual shape and reshape the artwork in motion.

The growing relationship and stimulating dialogue between Marie-Christine Statz and Camille Henrot led to a series of black-and-white looks, including pajamas that might have been worn by Schnabel or Basquiat in the 1980s with an integral motif of Henrot’s erotic drawings, arranged in a dangerous promiscuity.

As always, tailoring brings the essence and the biggest part of the winter collection. This season, the precise silhouettes of the garments are broken by slits sewn on coats, jackets, skirts and pants. Fabrics of different densities such as classic Italian menswear fine stripes and heavier loden fabrics alternate in one piece and change the shape. Open edges and large folds deconstruct dresses, jackets and knits. All of these precise manipulations of clothing come to life in different ways – depending on the individual wearing it.

Washed grey denim jackets and pants play with volume and pleats. Asymmetrical ribbed, pleated or form-fitting knits are made from vintage 90s yarn. Shiny lacquered cottons, patent linen and sequins are featured in off-the-shoulder dresses, high-waisted pants and puffy tops. Black leather, textured brushed wool, techno or cotton jersey and semi-sheer wool twill are cut into oversized turtleneck sweaters and draped into long halter dresses, midi skirts and crop tops with boyish femininity.

GAUCHERE is a French ready-to-wear house founded in 2013 by designer Marie-Christine Statz. His vision is to create garments that enhance the individual, relying on the art of tailoring, the appreciation of materials as they are and the translation into pure geometric structures and sculptural volumes. Marie-Christine’s intuitive creations express the mood of today while aiming for permanence and timelessness.

The GAUCHERE community is progressive and active in today’s society. « Live and let live » is not just a phrase for them, but an attitude towards life. The GAUCHERE winter 2023 collection offers options for those who seek clothing that fits their lifestyle, has a personality of its own and appreciates quality and durability. GAUCHERE clothing is designed to be worn and loved for years to come, making them essential wardrobe pieces for anyone looking to express themselves through their clothing style.
