« Ici c’est le paradis » is DIDU’s first collection developed entirely in Paris, after the designer’s move from Shanghai in October 2022. In this collection, Di Du offers a counter-proposal to the suffocating state of the world by celebrating the moments of happiness and sharing that we can experience with our loved ones.
The collection is inspired by both the delicacy of European ballet costumes and the refinement of Chinese qipao, a symbol of opulence in 1920s Shanghai. Vaporous and diaphanous fabrics in fleshy gray tones are superimposed on the skin in an otherworldly haze. Western women’s ballet clothes are mixed with traditional Chinese elements, such as stand-up collars and flower embroidery.
Despite the beauty of the clothes, there is a certain urgency in the collection. Faded denim and faded colors, delicately destroyed knits and leggings in a cream palette evoke a certain distress. For Di Du, these moments of happiness are fleeting and it is important to cherish them before they slowly disappear.
