Presenting THEATRE, SHIATZY CHEN Fall/Winter 2020 collection.

With the mysterious black as canvas, fiery red, snowy white and that gentle skin tone interlaces, the classic contrasting colors of black, red and white coupled with the luxurious luster natural to the textiles highlight the theatrical tension inherent in this collection; the finishing touches of gaudy turquoise and multi-colored jacquard totems point to the cheerfulness of a play.

The contour of this season builds on the combination of clothing cultures from the east and the west, elevating classical elements with a modern look. The upper body speaks a variety of languages with the regal Baroque style coinciding with the cloud collar and elaborate headdress common to the Beijing Opera, laces and embroidery turning the band collar into an intricately layered collar and mantelet. Wavy curves and asymmetrical pleats are generously adopted in the entire collection, with the use of lantern sleeves echoing the theme by adding volume to the pieces.
Metallic fabrics are extensively used to create the different shades often seen in the theater. Jacquard printing on yarn is attempted for the first time while maintaining the SHIATZY CHEN tradition of embracing and experimenting with different textiles. From classic sheer organza, chiffon and French Solstiss lace, to cozy wool, silk velvet that drapes beautifully, the Italian jacquard textile with that ambiguous metallic sheen, and the luxuriously smooth satin and silk.

Sparking on shoes where leather, satin and velvet melted, blending the elegant heeled mules and the sumptuous lace-up boots in one.

The photographer of this collection, Leon Mark interprets the still atmosphere and contours infusing to the images dramatic emotions. Choreographed in beat to the rhythm of the English sonnet, a poetic chapter of fashion is written ; THEATRE.
