Maticevski returns to the runway for Paris Couture Week
Renowned Melbourne-based designer Toni Maticevski will unveil his new collection in Paris, with a magical show to be held as part of Couture Week on Tuesday the 2nd of July.
Maticevski’s show, his second in Paris, will take place at the Palais De Tokyo’s Orbe De New York located on 13 Avenue du President Wilson at 3 pm.
Collection Couture / Resort 2020 will consist of 36 bold looks, encompassing a capsule of one-off couture items and signature Maticevski pieces from Resort 20, inspired by the moment of capturing chance within nature.
“The torrents of nature, where the calm and the mystical collide, was the absolute source for me with this collection. Capturing this reflects a moment when everything aligns and happens, and I am so excited to bring this evolution to Paris,” Toni explains.
« For me, the purpose is to showcase both the collections and to flex my creative ideas. It is also an opportunity for my clients to get closer to the world of Maticevski and experience the brand in a different way.”
Describing showing in Paris as being a “very special moment” Toni adds that it’s been a three-month process to develop the range. “To be able to finally unveil this to my customers and supporters in the media, influencers, buyers and stylists who resonate with my brand is always something special,” Toni said.
Collection Couture / Resort 2020 takes the notion of an about-to-bloom flower to heightened levels: fabrics curl about the face and grow upwards to the neck like unfurling petals. Butterfly and moth motifs add and embrace, gathering at significant zones such as the neck, back, shoulders and sleeves, embracing this metamorphosis.
« As always, draping plays a big part in my collections and it is no different here, where I am almost cocooning the female form, to where she blossoms into her own being.”
Patterns clash and enhance one another. Just as in nature the idea that hybrid species emerge with leopard-butterflies and zebra-moths combining. There is a lightness, with boxy silhouettes feeling light and airy, sensual and fluid. Silhouettes are cinched and tightened, with a tenseness of patent leather curl-studded belts.
A highlight of this collection will be the fine jewellery collaboration by Heart of Bone x Maticevski, which was inspired by the wonder of nature in all its light and shade and each designer’s fascination with the creative and the beautiful.
Maticevski Resort 2020 will be available through Maticevski’s international retailers and tonimaticevski.com from November 2019.
