The Riot from Buckler on Vimeo.
New York City, February 16, 2012 – In August 2011, we posted an editorial titled, Go Forth…Riot Is The New Rave. It explored the surge in riot and protest-based editorials, collections, and advertising campaigns in the fashion world. Andrew Buckler’s street ready menswear label Buckler is no stranger to edgy looks and for Fall/Winter 2012, this designer also looked to the riot as the central theme behind the new collection.
Buckler launched a FW12 video in front of a very intimate audience at the Lower East Side’s Elsinore on Wednesday, February 8th, forgoing a fashion show altogether. “Riots are the inspiration, a reflection of the world around us, a time of expression,” Buckler told GQ.
Not a fashion show nor a presentation – just a party on the eve of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week’s opening day. Bizarre, rebellious, avant-garde? Not likely. What’s more probable is that it had something to do with Andrew Buckler’s recent appointment as the new VP of Global Creative Design for Converse. It will be interesting to see what impact this has on Buckler going forward. Hopefully, this wonderful brand isn’t relegated to the status of side project.
