Bernard Chandran offered a very grown up collection for Autumn Winter 2012. Indeed, the Malaysian-born and French-trained designer becomes more and more high profile season after season, counting among his clients big names ranging from Lady Gaga to members of the royal families in Malaysia.
The silhouette is highly structured and sophisticated, in monochromes of black, grey and blue – yet far from boring. The dark and neutral tones, rich fabrics and perfect cuts are teamed with futuristic accessories, asymmetry and plastic materials to create this something more that makes all the difference.
Chandran also played around luxury sheer fabrics, with see-through dresses embellished with gold and silvery beading work, and techniques such as laser cutting to disconnect the shoulders.
The real stars of the show, however, were the accessories, including footwear. Winged high heels in contrasting red and black, or adorned with sparkly crystals, added a very glamorous and confident touch to the silhouette. Detachable high collars were seen throughout the collection, declined in different materials and sometimes with quite heavy beaded embellishment.
