If there were a word to characterise Basso & Brooke’s Autumn Winter 2012 collection, it would most definitely be ‘print’. Basso and Brooke have been known over the years for their work on digital prints, and this show was the essence of it, a genuine festival of prints: small, large, classic, graphic, seventies-inspired, black & white, bright-coloured, pastels, stripes, dots, houndstooth – not one was missing.
The whole point, though, is that we are used to see these types of prints on a very small scale. Designers Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke, who have been working together for over a decade, were quite keen on surprising their audience. They decided to magnify those to an extreme, and to mix them, in order to create a whole different pattern.
The fantastic use of silk gives life to these prints through the fluidity of the large trousers, dresses and blouses. A very refreshing collection in the sumptuous surrounds of Goldsmith’s Hall!
