Day 5 of New York Fashion Week had us basking under the glittering glow of luxurious golden pieces by Carlos Miele and Norman Ambrose, admiring the new age men’s creations of VLOV, and a tribute to the serene colours of the Arizona desert care of Perry Ellis.
CARLOS MIELE – The Brazilian designer’s latest source of inspiration was an aquatic paradise, where long flowing chiffon caftans trailed in the wake of the bombshells that floated down the runway. Nautilus-inspired gowns, koi fish prints, and concentric prints that remind me of those iridescent drops of oil and gasoline that spread out in puddles of water. This elegant collection transported us to Miele’s Brazilian Garden of Eden. For more photos please click here.
VLOV – The letter ‘V’ – graphic, graceful, simplistic. This was the foundation of Mr. Qingqing “Richard” Wu’s latest collection. Opting to show in New York Fashion Week instead of Beijing, Wu explained VLOV’s decision earlier last month, “As a China-based U.S.-listed company, we feel it is important for our shareholders to attend a VLOV fashion show and experience firsthand the excitement and passion surrounding our brand. While our fashion shows have historically been held in Beijing, we view our participation in the New York Fashion Week as an important initial step toward marketing our brand globally.” Introspective greys, wholesome whites, and electric blues that would give Yves Klein in ecstasy provide us with a collection that is original, sophisticated, and fresh. It’s All Style To Me caught up with Alan Cumming backstage who seemed very pleased with what he saw. Loving the zip-front sports jackets. For more photos please click here.
NORMAN AMBROSE – Who are you and where on earth did you come from? One of the best collections to come out of New York has to be that of NYFW newcomer Richard Ambrose. The man dazzled the crowd with opulence. The sun did indeed glisten on the Mediterranean like a sea of diamonds… Metallic gold and tangerine embellished gowns, jackets, and an insane golden glass beaded bolero over a gold brocade halter jumpsuit made Patrick McDonald’s head spin from the front row. Accessorize with $22 million dollars worth of Verdura jewels and you don’t have a Spring/Summer 2012 Collection – you have a Saint Tropez Collection. For more photos please click here.
PERRY ELLIS – One of several nomadic collections for Spring/Summer 2012 include John Crocco’s Perry Ellis Men’s Collection. Inspired by the colours of the Arizona desert, Crocco’s muted sun-bleached pastels are on trend with much of what we saw in Milan SS12 a few months ago. The Italianized American label has gone from creating safe American staples, to slightly more daring fashion forward Milanese pieces – and they’re looking better for it. Highlights of the collection include the beautiful coloured cable knits, white seersucker suit, colour blocked sweater, and chintz linen pieces. For more photos please click here.
W HOTELS FASHION NEXT – W Hotels held a Day 5 Finale in the Lincoln Center’s Courtyard in celebration of their Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion Next Designers: Bibhu Mohapatra, Michael Angel, Juan Carlos Obando, Electric Feathers, Nomia, and Rochambeau. A little extra late night exposure for the labels never hurt anyone. Besides, what a great way to see these creations come alive at night? The crowd was pretty easy on the eyes as well.
