This season, Jaeger London is all about laid-back elegance with a touch of glamour. Stuart Stockdale has imagined for Spring/Summer 2012 a woman landing on the exclusive island of Mustique, which has attracted over the years so many British rock stars and royalties. The collection therefore mixes references to British colonial style and late 60’s and 70’s jet set glamour. In other words, think Bianca Jagger!
As always, Jaeger’s silhouettes are very neat, with A-line skirts, chic tailored shorts and cropped jackets declined in elegant tones of ivory, black, navy and pastels – the pale mint is a delight. It has been spiced up though, through an extended palette of warm hues of cognac, cinnamon, saffron and ochre. One of my favourite pieces of the collection is an amazing multicoloured striped dress that combines all these gorgeous shades.
The Spanish history of Mustique is also present through the Gaucho-style jackets and hats that add a twist of originality and holiday feeling, while keeping an impeccable silhouette.
A great deal of attention has been paid to details, from the geometric cut-outs, ranging from very simple figures such as triangles to the most complicated Arabic-inspired patterns, to superimposed layer of black tulle on jackets, skirts and shorts.
Jaeger have been in business for 127 years, and with such an enchanting collection we can only hope they will be there for at least another century.
