In mid-April, I had posted information about The Power Ball, one of Toronto’s upcoming legendary annual charity events. Hosted by the Harbourfront’s Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, the party is the gallery’s largest annual fundraiser and attracts more than 1,700 people. Many It’s All Style To Me readers heeded the call and bought tickets to last night’s event. A good handful of you came up to thank me for letting you know about the event on the Blog, Facebook, and Twitter. Naturally, none of you were disappointed.
Ticket holders experienced a transformed gallery with every room designed to engage their imagination and delight their senses. The music of Drake Hotel’s DJs, Members_Only and Jaime Sin rocked the venue. Installations curated by artists included crazy fiber-optic laser effects, wild wall projections, and a freaky room of fridges full of beer, candy, doll heads, vintage radios, plastic eyeballs, and a few fake rats.
Stealing the show, celebrity chef Marc Thuet’s one-tonne cow roasted on an outdoor spit with Serbian butchers at the helm. The roast awoke the primal savage instincts as guests clamored to get their share of beef. The patio was looking like a very fashionable version of a scene out of Golding’s Lord of The Flies and it wasn’t long before Nick and I found ourselves being sniffed by two beautiful women and my head stuffed down the top of one of their dresses. Yay roasted cow.
In addition to the wonderful art installations, the party also featured a one-of-a-kind installation by presenting sponsor HUGO BOSS. « I see beautiful things around you, » read the BOSS message in bright neon – and beautiful things were indeed everywhere last night. As stunning as the women were, the Toronto men looked the best I’ve ever seen them. Toronto boys brought their fashion A-game and I’m sure the ladies (and boys) agreed. They jacked up their sartorial creativity daring to mix-and-match tuxedos and suits while pairing them up with some pretty bold accessories. Great event! If you missed it, make sure you don’t next year. For photos of The Power Ball 13, please visit the It’s All Style To Me Facebook Page.
